Cosmic Jewel & Calligraphic Energy Theme
Ruby Cosmos embodies Gulgee’s fascination with universal forces and Islamic calligraphy. Swirling gold and black strokes create galactic spirals while four ruby red forms float like gems or celestial bodies. The red jewels suggest rubies, blood, life force, or divine light against earthy brown cosmos. Story of creation, energy in flux, and precious moments suspended in time. Abstract yet spiritual – painting as meditation on existence.
Oil on Canvas Calligraphic Abstraction Technique
Oil on canvas using Burnt Umber, Gold Ochre, Ivory Black, and Cadmium Red. Gulgee employs his signature calligraphic brushwork – thick impasto swirls applied with palette knife and gestural sweeps. The ruby forms are sculptural, built up with pure red impasto catching light. Black lines flow like Arabic script through golden nebulae. Brown textured ground creates atmospheric depth. 18×24 vertical format concentrates the cosmic drama with intimate scale.
Spiral Composition & Jewel Focal Points
Vertical 18×24 format frames three interconnected spirals flowing top to bottom. Gold ochre vortexes create clockwise motion while black calligraphy adds structure. Four ruby red jewel forms punctuate the composition at key points – top, center, lower right – creating visual rhythm and balance. Brown textured field suggests infinite space. Eye circulates through spirals, landing on red jewels as moments of revelation. Powerful meditation piece.
About Artist Ismail Gulgee
