Javed Qamar, Calligraphy Artist and the Living Legacy of Classical Islamic Art

Javed Qamar is a Pakistani calligraphy artist based in Karachi, renowned for his mastery of Islamic calligraphy and his unique antique-inspired style. Born on November 9, 1964, he is a self-taught artist whose passion for calligraphy led him to pursue a professional artistic career after moving from Chiniot to Karachi in 1986.  

Inspired by classical Islamic calligraphers and historical manuscripts, he developed a distinctive approach that combines traditional Arabic scripts with contemporary artistic techniques. His works are particularly recognized for their fine calligraphic detail, harmonious compositions, and the use of antique tones enhanced with silver and gold leaf.  

Since his first participation in the Sindh Art Exhibition, Karachi, in 1989, Javed Qamar has exhibited extensively in Pakistan and internationally. His works have been showcased in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, London, Houston, and Malaysia, earning appreciation from collectors and art enthusiasts around the world.  

Over more than three decades of artistic practice, he has continued to refine and innovate within the tradition of Islamic calligraphy, establishing himself as one of Pakistan’s respected contemporary calligraphic artists. His artworks are held in numerous private collections both in Pakistan and abroad.
